The Kitchen: Plans and Progress

The reno itself started on May 7 with an estimated end date of July 10. So far, after 4 weeks, they appear to be one day early. The tearout is done, the drywall is up and done, and the primer coats are on. Hardwood is to be done this week.

When the job started, we thought we would get a dumpster, but it could only live on the road as we were working on saving our lawn -- so no dumpster. Our contractor stored all the garbage on our back deck for a few days. My favourite shot from the first week was this pile of stuff on our deck.

Here's a plan view of what we are up to. The dining room is to the left. The sink used to be in the lower left corner. The stove is basically staying where it was. The fridge is now counter depth and is built in next to the stove.

This is probably the best view of the layout. The colours are close, but the cabinets will be a deep chocolate, so will be darker than this. Hood fan and pendant lights are still being selected.

There's Jello himself wandering through this view of the construction today.

Standing in the back corner of the dining room, this is the view across the peninsula. The red cabinets on the wall of cupboards are all appliance garages. They will be done in Ferrari gloss red, and are matched by the two drawers flanking the stove.

Here's the view today. It's 2 shots, since it's too wide to replicate.

This is the view from inside the living room looking back into the kitchen. The space in the foreground is the second cooking area, accessible from the kitchen, on the end, or in the dining room.

Here's what it looks like today.

That looks really amazing! That will definitely be a much better use of the space - can't wait to see it.
