Kitchen Week 8

Okay, so we're way behind in updates. I was in Toronto last weekend, so have had lots to catch up on -- more on this in later posts.

As I mentioned, we got in the first night the floors were done and the stench was overpowering, but the floors looked great. It was at night, so all the photos are by flash, meaning the floors look even better than this.

Interestingly enough, they didn't finish under the cabinets as you can see here (also visible is all the stuff piled on the cabinets).

It only took KC about 4 days of constant fans running to get the house to the point where it smelled like someone was just painting. Jello came home from Auntie Rob and Uncle Joanne's and didn't seem to mind the aroma.

As essentially all the cabinets that can go in are in, not much has been going on in the installation department except for the ones beside the stove and dishwasher. The drawer bank beside the dishwasher came made in maple, though no one knows why.

The drawer innards are great. They are stainless steel lined, with glass sides. They also go in so cool; it's neat to watch but hard to describe (I'm trying to figure out how to video it and post the video). You close the drawer most of the way, then the drawer pulls itself in slowly the last inch or so. No more slamming drawers.

The latest stuff to be installed is the back of the drawer bank.

You may notice in the background the red drawer next to the stove. It's red alright.

So all that's the good news. Now the bad. They finally got around to measuring for countertops yesterday, 3 weeks late. The countertops are a 3 week build, so we are officially 3 weeks behind. By the original schedule, the job was to have been completed in totality 7 workdays from now on July 20th. We have asked for an updated schedule, but none has yet been forthcoming. My best guess is that we will be lucky to be done by August 10th. Our summer BBQ is now in peril due to other commitments around that date. Stay tuned, burger fans.
